Marantz 2238b service manual

It produces really warm and detailed sound at very low volume levels. Crank the volume up a bit and it responds with wonderfully clear sounds, just like the model I bought for my son.

I'm listening through some Polk audio monitors which I've owned for at least 15 years now. All in all I couldn't be happier with the sound.

My only wish was for better FM signal reception. I live in an area with many stations to listen to that broadcast with plenty of tower signal but it just doesn't pull in as strong as I'd like. Any tips on what I could do would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Reviewed Jun 15th, by guest. Looks fantastic with all the lights working. Cleanly built and wired interior. Great tuner with warm but detailed very listenable sound.

The tuner captures many stations cleanly using simple dipole wire FM antenna. Easy tuning with the meters and gyro tuning wheel. Very flexible connections with two tape inputs and aux for a digital source. Great low and mid-frequency detail with relatively tight bass with suitable speakers.

Can provide shimmering highs for excellent jazz reproducton. Note that the mono switch affects all inputs, not just the FM. Highly recommended with involving but nonfatiguing sound for a vintage system. Reviewed Feb 10th, by Fdlima. I've been biding on a bunch of them but I was always outbid and never got one.

I started to get frustrated with eBay's biding system but I was not giving up until I could get a Marantz receiver. But something amassing happened last Sunday. I was coming home from church and when turned onto my street I saw a Marantz receiver model B on top of a pile of bulk trash that my neighbor was throwing away.

You do not have to spray a lot. A little squirt goes a long way with Deoxit. After you spray the Deoxit in, simply turn the volume knob on the front of the unit back and forth, back and forth many times to work the Deoxit in. I usually go back and forth about times which sounds like a lot but since I have the unit open I may as well get her as clean as possible. To clean the push button switches on the front of the unit, you will need to locate the circled area in the photo below.

Once the Deoxit is applied, I simply the push the button in and out around times to make sure it cleans properly. The most important push button switch to clean is the Tape Monitor one. A dirty Tape Monitor switch can cause all sorts of problems, including a loss of sound. Just remember to not keep the switch activated when you eventually power the unit back on or you will not have sound.

So, pat yourself on the back for all the work so far and just be patient, knowing you can power her up the next day. One last piece of advice, before you plug the unit back in and power her up to test everything, go ahead and turn the volume knob all the way down and make sure your balance knob is correctly centered. Just give the unit a quick eyeball to make sure you will not blow yourself or your speakers away when you turn the unit back on.

If everything was cleaned properly, the unit should light up nice and bright from the new lights and the scratchy sounds should be eliminated. If so, turn the unit back off, unplug again and reinstall the bottom and top covers. Maybe you can upload a pic for the Marantz B?

FOR U. Distortion I. Alternate Channel Selectivity The bigger challange as you mention above is to replace caps at PE01 board this also push me to search in google if it is possible to do recap without open so many parts surrounding , but I will try to open it although I know it is risky because I plan to change all caps below 4.

I find many hints that very usefull since you mention there are some print mistaken and some uncorrect explantion especially point to adjust 35VDC, I think I was made a mistake to follow B service manual.

Your article really do enlightment for me. So I think you deserve my huge gratitude and hope you don't mind if I contact you for further discussion.

Thank you once again and Happy New Year Hi Elsuhan. There are a lot of errors in Marantz service manuals. Take your time and work slowly on your B. And you won't be disappointed with a final result. It is a sweet receiver and sounds great. Happy New Year! I bought this receiver a few months ago from the original owner for a fair price. The receiver is in perfect cosmetic condition. The faceplate, all knobs, and push buttons are flawless. According to the original owner it has never been serviced.

It is certainly worth restoring. Marantz B was manufactured from to It produces 38 watts per channel into 8 ohms with no more than 0. The optional walnut veneer cabinet for this model is WC Any successful restoration always begins with a good cleaning. Believe me. It has been proven many times after many successful restorations. So, before the servicing, I carefully vacuumed out this unit inside and cleaned each board.

The dust was dry and easily removed with a vacuum cleaner and a set of small brushes. It is always worth cleaning any vintage gear before servicing. Initial Evaluation and Troubleshooting. Despite the almost perfect cosmetic condition, all push switches in this unit were severely oxidized. All other switches and pots were in good shape.

This cleaning can be relatively easily performed from the back side of the unit. However, the following quick audio test showed that some switches still suffer from oxidized contacts. Before the second round of cleaning, I decided to perform a square wave test at Hz to see which push switch mostly suffers from oxidation. This test is more informative than a sine wave test and also provides information about the low-frequency response of a circuit.

So, I connected my function generator to the AUX terminals, applied a square-wave signal of Hz, and traced the input signal with my oscilloscope throughout all boards down to the speaker's terminals.

The square wave signal had a perfect shape at the input terminals of the tone amplifier board as expected but some degree of distortion at the output terminals depending on which push switch was depressed.

Often, the push switch changed the shape of the input signal in only one channel. This is a clear sign that some contacts in these push switches are still not clean enough. Eventually, after several more attempts, all contacts were completely cleaned and an almost perfect square wave signal was achieved at the output terminals of the tone amplifier board. Yes, sometimes it is very hard to clean all contacts in these vintage gears from the first attempt.
